DOES CBD OIL WORK AS A SLEEP AID? LETS TAKE A LOOK AT THE RESEARCH

For many people, getting a decent night’s sleep is tough. This might be related to health issues, lifestyle choices, or the ordinary stress of everyday life. Fortunately, there are natural supplements that can help enhance your sleep quality and reduce the amount of time it takes you to fall asleep.

CBD oil is one supplement worth investigating. CBD may be a solution to help us achieve better sleep without the adverse effects that come with pharmaceutical medications, according to research.

This post will go over the benefits of CBD for sleep as well as the research that has been done on the subject thus far. By the end of this article, you’ll know whether CBD is a feasible choice for enhancing your sleep quality.

THE RESEARCH

There has been a lot of research into CBD oil and how it interacts with your brain and hormones to reduce stress and relax your body. CBD has became popular for its use in anxiety treatment but its rising to fame for its potential to help reduce the effects of sleep disorders. This is because CBD has been proven to help with the root causes of sleep problems. Causes of sleep issues can include pain and stress related disorders, such as PTSD.

Research published in the National Library of Medicine suggests that CBD may be a solution for people who suffer from sleep disorders. In the aforementioned studies, researchers looked at the effects of cannabidiol on people who had trouble sleeping due to stress and/or anxiety.

In the first study, participants who received 160mg of CBD reported increased sleep duration compared to those who took 5mg of Nitrazepam.

In another study, researchers looked at the effects of CBD in combination with other prescription medicines in 72 adults with anxiety and sleep disorders.

The CBD doses varied from 25 to 175mg. According to the researchers, 25mg was the most effective anxiety dosage, but higher dosages were required to address disturbed sleep. During the three-month study, investigators followed up with the participants every month. At the first follow-up, 66.7% of the individuals already reported less trouble sleeping.

Results from a study involving a single participant, a 10-year-old girl with PTSD and sleep disorder, further showed that CBD could work as a sleep aid. The patient received 25mg of a CBD supplement at bedtime, plus an additional 6 – 12mg during the day. In the five months which the study took place, it was found that she had improved quality as well as quantity of sleep.

Although current studies are small, they provide promising preliminary evidence that CBD may work as a sleep aid.

How does CBD oil work?

  1. CBD is absorbed into your bloodstream and interacts with your endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is made up of neurotransmitters and cannabinoid receptors.

  2. The CBD interacts with your Cannabinoid (CB) receptors, which causes them to create endocannabinoids, which are your body’s own version of cannabinoids.

  3. The ECS and endocannabinoids act as a counterattack to your body's natural 'fight or flight' stress response.

  4. This means the stimulation of endocannabinoids helps to calm your body and reduce the effects of anxiety and stress.
